Roberto Palazzetti graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Alma Mater Studiorum in Bologna in 2009, where in 2013 he also obtained a doctorate in Mechanics of Materials and Technological Processes. He defended his thesis presenting a study on the interaction of Nylon nanofibers, manufactured by electrospinning, interleaved in epoxy-based composite laminates.
Whilst studying for his PhD he spent 4 months as a visiting researcher at the UFF in Niteroi (Brazil), working on a project regarding bonded joints of composite materials.
In 2013 he moved to Strathclyde University in Glasgow, where he was employed as a Research Assistant for 5 years. There he worked on robotics and technology transfer from aerospace to agriculture, carried out teaching assignments and took part in the writing and in the work of European (H2020) and national (UKSA and EPSRC) funded projects.
In 2017 he returned to Italy to take up a job in industry, working at Graf Synergy (Nonantola) as a designer of automatic machines and as engineer for the group’s R&D department. During that time he took part in further funded research projects, financed by MISE and the Emilia Romagna region (POR-FESR).
In 2020 he was appointed as an Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Milano.
His scientific papers are in the field of Machine Design, presenting works on nanofibers and composite materials, additive manufacturing, vibrations and space design.
