Stefano Bruni is full professor at Politecnico di Milano, Department of Mechanical Engineering, where he leads the “Railway Dynamics” research group. His research interests are concerned with the dynamics, vibration, stability and active control of mechanical systems, with applications to rail vehicle dynamics and train-track interaction, active control and condition monitoring in rail vehicles, pantograph-catenary interaction, wind-induced vibration of large civil structures. He authored approximately 280 scientific papers and spent a large amount of time lecturing and consulting to the industry in Italy and other countries. He is / has been lead scientist for several research projects funded by the industry and by the European Community. He is First Vice-President of the IAVSD - International Association for Vehicle System Dynamics, Associate Editor of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Part F: Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, Associate Editor of the Journal Urban Rail Transit, member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Modern Transportation and member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Railway Technology. Prof. Bruni is a member of the advisory board of the Research Centre Railway Systems (RCRS) established at TU Graz and a former member of the Scientific Committee of the French Technological Research Institute (IRT) RAILENIUM.
